The project will see two new stations constructed, Leven and Cameron Bridge.

Network Rail has issued a summary of the upgrade work it completed over the August bank holiday weekend.

An article on the BBC website says Tyne and Wear Metro commuters said the glass panel was left lying between the lines at the station in Seaburn, Sunderland.

Metro operator Nexus said it had to withdraw the train from service and was now reviewing all CCTV footage.

It said anybody caught damaging its trains could face prosecution, a fine or a network-wide ban.

The final phase of enhancement works are being undertaken at Dunblane Station to help improve service reliability on Scotland’s railway.
