A multi-million pound transformation of one of the North of England’s busiest railway stations is set to be given the go-ahead this week to provide a new gateway to the historic city of York.

The article in the Yorkshire Post says the £28 million project is due to be discussed by councillors in York this week and is set to see a redesigned entrance created at the station, which dates back to 1877.

A planning application will be discussed by the council’s planning committee on Thursday.


With the end in sight for UK coal for UK steam, heritage railways have turned their sights overseas for continued supplies of coal.

The Heritage Railway Association says UK-produced coal for the nation’s much loved steam railways will run out in early 2022.

HRA Chief Executive Steve Oates says over the past five years every planning application for a new mine which could have produced the kind of coal needed has been refused.

He said unless we find an alternative source of supply, heritage railways will be running on coal dust.

A rail services provider is set to create jobs by relocating to a Doncaster business park.

An article in Insider Media Limited says Dual Inventive, which uses technology to make improvements and efficiencies in the rail network, has moved to a 18,000 sq ft unit near Doncaster Sheffield airport.

The expansion has created eight jobs in Doncaster, with the company expecting to grow to 40-strong workforce in the near future.


Finally, and one of the rail industry’s leading and most respected commentators Nigel Wordsworth has joined RBD as the company’s Managing Editor.

He will lead the business’ content and copywriting team.

On his appointment he says he is really pleased to be joining RBD at such an exciting time with many new projects on the horizon.
