Maritime Transport has officially opened its Strategic Rail Freight Interchange (SRFI) at SEGRO Logistics Park Northampton (SLPN).
An opening ceremony, held at the SRFI on Friday 27 February 2026, was attended by Rail Minister Lord Hendy of Richmond Hill CBE, alongside representatives from SEGRO, local authorities, Government, and the wider logistics sector.
Maritime’s ninth rail freight terminal provides direct northbound and southbound connections to the West Coast Main Line via the Northampton loop.
A delegation of Wrexham politicians and business leaders has gone to Downing Street to lobby Prime Minister Keir Starmer for a new Wrexham-London train service.
An article on The Leader Live says the proposed route – which would start at Wrexham General and pass through the Midlands before heading to London Euston Station – was rejected two years ago over concerns around congestion on the West Coast Main Line.
At the same time the previous Wrexham-London service came to an end, severing the direct link between the cities. But operator Wrexham Shropshire and Midlands Railway, Wrexham County Borough Council and MPs from both Wrexham and Shropshire believe that there is now capacity and – crucially – demand for the service.
A newly upgraded railway station in West Yorkshire is now fully accessible for all passengers, following a major investment.
An article on The Telegraph and Argus says Menston station has undergone a £7.8 million modernisation to improve accessibility and passenger experience.
The works include new lifts, a footbridge, upgraded waiting areas, improved CCTV, tactile paving, and a refreshed accessible footpath.
Work has officially resumed on the multi-million-pound redevelopment of Skegness railway station — bringing fresh momentum to plans to transform the town’s key gateway.
An article on Lincolnshire World says East Midlands Railway (EMR), operated by Transport UK, has confirmed construction is back under way on the £3.3 million scheme, delivered in partnership with Network Rail and new contractor Gelder Group.
The Lincolnshire-based firm will carry out the next phase of works, which will see the main station building fully refurbished and the historic Red Star Building brought back into use.
