Disruption continues across the London underground network today after a strike yesterday brought the Tube to a standstill.

An article in the Evening Standard says that just after 7 this morning only the Central and Victoria lines were running a normal service.

The story says that TfL has warned that services were unlikely to be operating at anywhere near normal until at least mid-morning.

RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said the fight goes on and its executive will consider the next steps in the campaign.

Andy Lord, TfL’s chief operating officer, has urged the RMT to talk to them so they can find a resolution on the dispute.

Meanwhile TransPennine has warned passengers of rail disruption on Sunday due to strike action.

The strike has been called by RMT, with the train operator asking customers to be prepared and plan ahead.

HS2 has confirmed it is boosting the amount of material moved to site by train into construction sites near Aylesbury.

The move will mean taking the equivalent of an extra 28,500 lorries off Buckinghamshire’s roads and in the process will cut 9,680 tonnes of carbon emissions.

It will also reduce disruption to the local communities on a line destined to pass to the west of the town.

So far, HS2 has already run more than 500 freight trains into its site at Calvert since opening the first railhead in December 2020 – and the new facility on the Prince’s Risborough line, south of Aylesbury, will allow another 285,000 tonnes of aggregate, needed for construction, to be delivered over the next four months.

Train operator Avanti West Coast has joined forces with a children’s book company to donate hundreds of titles to primary schools.

Avanti is lending its support to Little Box of Books in an effort to provide a diverse and inclusive selection of literature to schools to encourage and celebrate the joy of reading. The book company recently launched a campaign to work with businesses so that every child has the opportunity to become a reader.

As part of World Book Day, boxes containing 100 storybooks were delivered to 11 schools across the West Coast Main Line route including Lancaster, Runcorn, Manchester, Crewe, Liverpool, Macclesfield, Stockport and Penrith.
