Edinburgh’s Waverley Station is set to undergo a dramatic transformation that could render it unrecognisable as bosses bid to accommodate projected passenger growth over the next 30 years.

An article in The Scotsman details the £500,000 concept masterplan that has been drawn up, including the possible construction of mezzanine levels that would provide new access to Princes Street and Market Street.

Other potential additions include the implementation of a cycle network with storage for 1,800 bikes.

Plans for a new £120 million mainline train station between Cardiff and Newport, at the heart of a 900,000 sq ft business district, will be submitted later this year.

The article in Business Live comes as a pre-planning five-week statutory public consultation exercise has started on the Cardiff Parkway station project and its adjoining Cardiff Hendre Lakes commercial development.


Millions of pounds have been awarded to Worcester to transform a railway station, build a new medical school and cycling bridge.

The article in the Halesowen News says almost five millions pounds has been granted to various projects, including a plan by the University of Worcester to build a new medical training facility.

The Government money will also pay for the development plans to transform Worcester Shrub Hill railway station and the surrounding area.


Finally, and the Railway Dogs Fund has been formerly registered as a charity.

It was established to support dogs who have completed their service with British Transport Police.

DCC Adrian Hanstock, the fund’s chairman, said it will help them to provide even better support for the hardworking dogs once they retire from operational service.
