Winvic Construction has secured a £29 million contract to construct DIRFT III intermodal rail freight terminal for Prologis.

The scheme forms part of Prologis’ extension to its UK’s logistics park and comprises significant earthworks, 79,000m2 concrete terminal slab, 9km rail track networked to the existing terminal and the West Coast Mainline, and three complex bridges.

When completed in summer 2021, the terminal will be capable of receiving up to 24,775 m long trains each day and the concrete yard will provide space for the storage of 460 containers.

Atkins has been appointed by Network Rail to analyse dynamic behaviours of overhead line equipment and develop new OLE designs for future electrification schemes.

Project manager Malabika Das says they are proud to be supporting Network Rail on these new designs to help reduce electrification unit costs and in turn, support the industry’s climate and environmental targets.

GB Railfreight and Drax have agreed to extend their contract to transport supplies of sustainable biomass from UK ports to Drax Power Station in North Yorkshire until 2025.

Teams have worked closely with Drax for the past decade to maintain the supplies of sustainable biomass needed for the UK’s largest power station to continue generating the renewable power for millions of UK homes and businesses.

Under the terms of the contract, GBRf will run all of Drax tonnage from the Ports of Tyne and Liverpool to Drax Power Station.

Finally, and anyone planning a visit to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway from Monday, August 17th to Sunday, August 30th, is now able to depart twice daily on The Optimist – a non-stop journey from Pickering to Whitby.
