New technology is being developed to help identify hazards on railway lines such as “leaves on the line” that can prevent trains from running.
An article on the BBC website says so-called low-adhesion hazards on railway lines are estimated to cost the industry £350 million a year.
Network Rail said the aim was to develop a system that would capture data from across the network.
The system is being developed by Loughborough and Sheffield universities and engineering firm Perpetuum.
Eight of the Elizabeth line’s 10 Central London stations have now been transferred to Transport for London, with main contractors demobilised.
An article in New Civil Engineer says Canary Wharf and Bond Street are now the only stations to be handed over to TfL with main work still ongoing.
Canary Wharf Contractors Ltd remains on site, with work to complete the Bond Street station already taken in-house.
Commuters are being warned by London Underground that driver strikes could cause “severe disruption” to Night Tube services on weekends for six months.
An article on the BBC says RMT union members will walk out on 7 January and will do so overnight from about 20:30 GMT every Friday and Saturday through to June.
The strikes over new night rosters will affect the Central and Victoria lines.
London Underground has said drivers will only be rostered to work up to four night shift weekends per year.

January 6 marked 60 years to the day since what is now the Heritage Railway Association met for the first time.
A wider celebration of the milestone is set to take place later in the year when coronavirus restrictions in all parts of the UK allow.
