Network Rail is due in court over a train crash which claimed three lives.

An article on the Daily Record website says train driver Brett McCullough, 45, conductor Donald Dinnie, 58, and passenger Christopher Stuchbury, 62, died in the derailment near Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire, on August 12, 2020.

The case is due to call at the High Court in Aberdeen today.


Plans to upgrade a West Midlands railway station are being worked up as part of a £2.4 million scheme to improve passenger experience, access and transport links.

An article on Insider Media Limited says Dudley Port is already a focus for transport investment with a new tram stop on the Wednesbury to Brierley Hill West Midlands Metro extension, currently under construction

Proposals are now under development to create a Dudley Port Interchange Hub to make the railway station more welcoming, connect to the new Metro and further enhance road, bus, cycling and walking links.

Network Rail has started work its £33 million land reinforcement project on the East Coast Main line in County Durham.

An article on New Civil Engineer says the project on Browney Curve will see the public rail infrastructure body reinforce over 1km of land where the East Coast Main line track sits.

Browney Curve is an active landslip and is being monitored by Network Rail to see if there is any ground movement and to make sure it remains safe to run trains along the line.

Major piling work is to take place as part of this project as a permanent solution to secure the land around the railway line. Earth has previously fallen onto the tracks of the railway that passes the area.

The Scottish Government has confirmed funding of £140 million that will see the delivery of the East Kilbride Enhancement Project.

In addition, the Transport Minister, Fiona Hyslop confirmed that the Barrhead route electrification and associated station improvement works remain on track for completion in December this year.

This latest funding commitment demonstrates continued progress with the Scottish Government’s rolling programme of railway electrification as a key element of transport decarbonisation.
