The final parts of a railway track, that is part of a multi-billion pound project, have been laid between Bicester and Bletchley.

An article on the BBC website says East West Rail (EWR) aims to connect and increase public transport options between Oxford and Cambridge via Bicester, Milton Keynes and Bedford.

The project plans to connect Oxford and Cambridge and open access to more work and education opportunities.

CEO Beth West said journey times between the two cities would be reduced to 90 minutes from the current “two and a half hours by car or coach”.

West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin has laid out plans for a tram system that will connect Leeds and Bradford.

Proposals for the system were unveiled on Thursday, as West Yorkshire Combined Authority prepared for its final meeting before May’s Mayoral election of West Yorkshire’s leaders. Set to take place on 14 March, the meeting will see members approve the submission of a ‘strategic outline case’ document to the Department for Transport.

The combined authority added that it hoped construction of the project’s early stages would begin in 2028.
