Passengers travelling on TransPennine Express services were forced to endure another day of widespread disruption as around a third of its trains were cancelled.

An article on The Yorkshire Post website says the new state-run operator said a shortage of train drivers caused issues across the network but it is working to “restore performance as quickly as possible”.

First Group lost the contract to run TransPennine Express (TPE) services last month, because it had been cancelling more trains than any other operator.


Members of the RMT union have voted to accept a pay offer made by ScotRail.

An article on the BBC website says it means conductors, ticket examiners and station staff will get a 5 per cent pay rise for 2023/24.

The lowest paid members of staff at the government-owned company, will also get an additional £750.


London North Eastern Railway (LNER) is welcoming increasing numbers of passengers back to rail travel, according to the latest figures from the Office of Rail and Road (ORR).

An article on Rail Advent says the publicly run operator has seen a greater increase in passenger number than other franchised operators over the last two years, and the newly-released data follows similarly encouraging figures for the previous quarter.

The newly-published data show that over the period January-March 2023, LNER recorded six million passenger journeys, which represents increases of 111 per cent on the same period in 2019, 22 per cent on the same period in 2022.


Peter, Lord Hendy of Richmond Hill has been reappointed as the Chair of Network Rail to serve a further two years, the Transport Secretary has announced.

As Chair of the Board, Peter, Lord Hendy of Richmond Hill, will continue to oversee Network Rail’s multi-billion-pound budget to efficiently run 20,000 miles of railway track and provide reliable services for passengers and freight customers across England, Scotland and Wales.

He said: “I am looking forward to supporting Andrew Haines, Chief Executive, and his team, in maintaining and improving Network Rail’s delivery, now and into the next five-year funding period.”
