Incoming CEO introduces SatSense to railbusinessdaily readers

Imagine knowing how much the ground was moving around your line, embankment, station, bridge or tunnel without having to leave your armchair, send a train, install any sensors, or attend site for any other reason. The potential for improving safety and maintenance effectiveness while reducing disruption never came so easily.

This use of technology (radar data from satellites) was the calling for Matthew Bray, who recently joined the SatSense team as CEO. Reflecting on his first few weeks in post, he said: “Joining a business on the day everyone was informed by government to work from home was different. That said, I’ve been amazed by the positivity in businesses across rail, geotechnical, property conveyancing, insurance and more. People want to crack on.”

He joins at a pivotal and exciting time for the business, who recently secured funding to exploit the ground movement data they have just finished processing for the whole of the UK.

He said: “In a nutshell, we take freely available satellite data and very accurately track ground movement – to within around 2mm/year. We have data back to 2015 instantly available, and it’s updated every 6 days – at a resolution of approximately 4m x 14m. I’m very encouraged by the initial discussions we’ve had with Network Rail.”

SatSense Ltd are very interested in talking to potential partners who would like to explore using this data as part of the service they provide. Head to www.satsense.com for more details or explore our data portal at https://portal.satsense.com/.
