LGV with “hazardous load” strikes railway bridge

A road was closed over the weekend after an LGV hit a railway bridge in Hinckley, Leicestershire, and shed most of its load.

Nobody was injured as a result of the incident, which took place at about 11:45pm on Friday, 27 May on the A5 between the A47 and M69.

The vehicle was carrying batteries, paint thinners and other flammables, and declared hazardous. After investigation, the bridge was declared safe by railway engineers.

The road reopened after a clean-up by midday, 28 May.
