Light rail leader confirmed as LRSSB board member

After serving as an interim board member for over six months, Danny Vaughan replaces Bob Morris, former Chief Operating Officer for Transport for Greater Manchester, who has stood down from the position at the Light Rail Safety and Standards Board (LRSSB), following his retirement.

The appointment of Mr Vaughan, who is the Metrolink Network Director at Transport for Greater Manchester, was confirmed at a recent LRSSB board meeting.

With more than 20 years’ experience in rail and light rail, he has previously worked for the Railway Procurement Agency in Dublin (now TII), Alstom Transport and Halcrow in Australia before moving to Manchester in 2013, as the Metrolink system was rapidly expanding.

Following the meeting, LRSSB Chief Executive Carl Williams welcomed Mr Vaughan to the board while paying tribute to his predecessor.

“Danny has already made a significant contribution to the work of the board, and his knowledge and experience as the head of the UK’s largest tramway will prove invaluable as we continue to take the lead in all aspects of light rail safety,” he said.

“Bob has served on the board since it was formed in 2019, and we would also like to thank Bob for his commitment to the organisation over the past five years and wish him all the best for the future.”

Danny Vaughan added: “These are exciting times for the LRSSB as it continues to grow and evolve, and I’m proud to be part of an organisation that’s already delivering huge benefits for the sector and the travelling public.”
