Liverpool Central works cancelled, but station to remain open during strike action

Planned engineering works at Liverpool Central station have been cancelled due to strike action announced by the RMT.

Engineering works from Sunday 6 November to Wednesday 9 November were due to close the station, but the three 24-hour strikes by Network Rail maintenance staff, taking place from 02:00 on Saturday 5 November to 01:59 on Sunday 6 November, from 02:00 on Monday 7 November to 01:59 on Tuesday 8 November, and from 02:00 on Wednesday 9 November to 01:59 on Thursday 10 have put paid to the works.

The planned works would have seen engineers making amendments to the station’s platforms and lines, to accommodate new rolling stock.

Merseyrail employees are not involved in the industrial action, so services on the Hunts Cross, Kirkby, Southport and Ormskirk lines will no longer be affected by the planned temporary closure of the Northern line at Liverpool Central, as had been previously announced.

It is not yet known when the work will be carried out, but a date will be confirmed as soon as it is available.
