Mark Wild has stepped down as CEO of Crossrail, as part of the agreed plan to pass leadership of the programme to Transport for London (TfL) once the Elizabeth line was open.
On LinkedIn, he paid tribute to the team he was worked with to deliver the major project.
He said: “So today is my last day as CEO of Crossrail. It was always the agreed plan with sponsors that once the Elizabeth line was open it was time to shift the leadership fully to TFL.
“I am just one of 75.000 people who worked on this incredible once in an generation engineering achievement. I am incredibly honoured to have served as CEO but the real credit goes to the determination and the brilliance of everyone who worked so hard over 20 years to make this the success it so obviously is.
“Sure we have had bumps in the road and things did not always go our way. But throughout the whole 20 year journey we never gave up. The outcome is truly world class and a showcase for UK engineering.
“I know that in my time at the helm we led this programme with safety at the core of all of our decisions. If we had any success it has been to encourage transparency and get everyone work together on the ‘whole’ system not just the individual parts.
“There are far too many people to thank of course, but my own superb exec team have been brilliant putting up with me! I did want to particularly acknowledge the contribution of Sir Terry Morgan. We simply finished what he and his excellent team built.
“Thanks to everyone who supported us over the years, particularly when things were not going well. It really made all the difference.”
