Morris Line Engineering (MLE), based in Bridgend, has received an updated Network Rail Certificate of Acceptance for their latest Disconnector & Motor Operating Gear range.
The new certificate addresses the safer, faster isolations workstream and the requirement for remote securing or other means of securing an isolation once disconnectors/switches are open.
Network Rail’s certification also includes a condition that “The use of Tension Rods is not recommended, and their use will invalidate the warranty.” This change comes as the use of tension rods with switches in portals and TTCs has proven to be both complex and unreliable and has caused numerous problems across the country. MLE’s pear drive system provides a reliable and cost-effective method of operating switches mounted on portal or TTC booms and can reach out to 27m from the mast.
Morris Line has been at the leading edge of the design and manufacture of high-voltage disconnectors and switches for railway applications for over 35, and partners with PACE Networks to deliver a range of 25kV equipment.

MLE’s approved basic pear drive arrangement is recommended for use with the Horizontal Blade Disconnector and Earthing Switch range (in accordance with MLE’s approved basic design arrangement drawing 30794). To ensure correct installations first time, Morris Line also offers a setup and commissioning service to tune and optimise the pear drive mechanism and switch itself. The setup and commissioning service is provided by engineers who are highly experienced in both MLE equipment and the wider OLE environment. With accurately set up switches and reduced site visits, the service can help save project time and reduce operating costs for asset owners over the long term.
