Motherwell station gets new lounge

A new lounge has been put in place at Motherwell station where the platform 2 and 3 waiting area once was.

ScotRail said the ambition was to make the station a more comfortable place to catch a train, with a larger, warmer, brighter, refurbished area with padded benches, new flooring, and softer lighting,

The work forms part of a £14.5m project to redevelop the station and create a new transport interchange in Motherwell.

Now in its third phase, redevelopment work is  currently focusing on extending the station forecourt and the internal concourse area.

North Lanarkshire Council’s work on a new transport hub at Muir Street is set to begin in the coming weeks, and will improve pedestrian and cycle access to the station, create more space for buses and taxis, and enhance the local environment.

John MacDonald, ScotRail Senior Project Manager, said: “Creating a welcoming station is key to making rail more attractive and improving overall customer experiences.

“The new facilities at the station will set the tone for their journey and I am delighted that this stage is complete.

“Combined with the work to improve transport integration outside the station, once complete, this project will create a gateway to Glasgow and beyond.”
