Network Rail begins work to improve a Lincolnshire level crossing next month

Work will begin next month to improve a Lincolnshire level crossing, which will make sure it can continue to be used reliably for years to come.

Network Rail engineers will be replacing the old barrier gates with new, modern ones at Swineshead level crossing near Boston.

Installing new, modern level crossing barriers will create a more resilient railway, help to reduce delays to services and mean that the level crossing remains fit for purpose.

Network Rail is taking extra precautions to make sure this work is carried out safely and in line with the government advice around social distancing in response to the Coronavirus outbreak.

The work at Swineshead level crossing will take place between Thursday, 9 April and Monday, 13 April and it will not impact on train services. During this time, motorists, cyclists and pedestrians will not be able to use the crossing and there will be a temporary road closure in place. There will be a fully sign posted diversionary route for motorists.

Vinny Briggs, Route Level Crossing Manager for Network Rail, said: “This is really important work to modernise Swineshead level crossing, and the new barriers will make sure it remains fit for purpose.

“They will also improve the reliability of the level crossing, and therefore, help to reduce delays on the railway.

“We are working hard to minimise any disruption whilst this work takes place and would like to thank all those impacted for their patience.”
