Network Rail continues to improve track in preparation for new Brent Cross West station

Network Rail is continuing to improve the track layout north of London on the Midland Main Line this weekend, to make space for the new Brent Cross West station.

Teams are upgrading the track between West Hampstead and Mill Hill Broadway to bring smoother, more reliable journeys for passengers.

They are also remodelling the track layout and making changes to the signalling, which will allow train services on the Midland Main Line to call at the new station when it opens next year.

For this work to take place safely, there will be changes to services over the Bank Holiday weekend on Saturday 29, Sunday 30 and Monday 31 May:

  • No East Midlands Railway trains will run between Luton and London St Pancras. Passengers can use bus replacements between Luton and Stanmore, where they can connect to London Underground services
  • There will be a reduced train service between Luton and Sheffield/Derby/Nottingham/Leicester/Corby
  • No East Midlands Railway services will run to Luton Airport Parkway. Passengers should change at Bedford for Thameslink services
  • Buses will replace Thameslink services between Mill Hill Broadway and West Hampstead stations
  • Buses will also run between Luton Airport Parkway and Hitchin, via Luton
  • Buses will replace trains between Harpenden and Potters Bar, calling at St Albans

Passengers can find out how their journeys will be affected with their train operator, via National Rail Enquiries, or by following #MayBHWorks on Twitter. People who need to travel should also allow plenty of time as their journey may take longer than usual.

Gary Walsh, Route Director for Network Rail’s East Midlands Route, said: “We want to thank passengers for their patience as we continue to make way for the new Brent Cross West station, which will eventually link communities with London, as well as towns and cities on the Midland Main Line.

“We’ve already made major progress on moving some of the track and signalling, but this vital work can only be done safely when there are no trains running on the line. Bus replacement services are running to keep passengers moving and people are strongly advised to check their journey before travelling.”
