Network Rail start work to improve accessibility at Spalding station next month

Work is starting next month (Tuesday, 3 December) at Spalding station, which will make it more accessible for passengers.

Network Rail is installing lifts at Spalding station to provide step-free access over to platform two, making it easier for people to use the station. The work also includes putting more lighting on the footbridge and additional CCTV around the station.

There will be no disruption to services whilst the work is carried out. Both platforms will remain open as usual during the construction and installation of the lifts. There will be a small compound area in the car park to allow the work to be done, which will take up around ten parking spaces. The project is expected to be completed in June 2020.

Gary Walsh, Route Director for Network Rail, said: “Network Rail is committed to improving access at stations and across the railway.

“The work at Spalding station will meet the needs of passengers and bring wider benefits for those using it.

“Network Rail is working closely with East Midlands Railway to minimise any disruption whilst the work is carried out.”

Neil Grabham, Customer Services Director for East Midlands Railway, said: “The installation of the lifts and tactile paving will improve the station for all Spalding passengers.

“We are working alongside Network Rail to ensure the improvements are carried out with as little disruption as possible and we thank passengers for their patience whilst the works take place.”
