New passenger figures show rail numbers recover from strikes

The Department for Transport has released its latest figures on the post-pandemic use of transport, which show the figures recovering following the strike action which took place on 21, 23 and 25 June.

The numbers are a rolling seven-day average showing a percentage compared with the equivalent period of 2019.

As with every week, the figures, which are flagged as an estimate for at least a week until the final tally can be taken from the nation’s ticketing systems, show a seven-day rolling average of 49% on 27 June go up to 77% by July 1 and reach 84% by yesterday.

All these numbers across the two weeks have been classed as still being etimated, so we can expect them to revise upward in the next few weeks.

The day-to-day Tube figures for the same period saw a low of 67% on 27 June, and a high of 87% on Saturday, 2 July,
