New track to be installed on the Clacton-on-Sea branch line over Early May Bank Holiday weekend

Essential rail works will take place to replace track at Weeley and Bentley on the Clacton-on-Sea branch line during the Early May Bank Holiday weekend to improve reliability.

Network Rail’s engineers will replace half a mile of track at Weeley and over a quarter a mile of track between Alresford and Great Bentley. This will keep rail services running and improve reliability for those who need to travel now and for when more passengers return in the future.

This means a rail replacement service will run between Colchester and Clacton-on-Sea and Walton-on-Naze from Friday 8 May to Monday 11 May and those who need to travel are advised to check how their journey will be affected.

Ellie Burrows, Network Rail’s route director for Anglia, said: “Our teams are carrying out vital upgrades and maintenance work to keep the rail network running safely and smoothly, and to reduce the number of delays and cancellations. This will benefit those who need to travel now and improve reliability for when more passengers return. Those who need to travel should check how their journey will be affected.”
