Nexus staff raise £10,000 for a mental health support charity

Nexus staff have raised over £10,000 for a local mental health charity.

Tyneside and Northumberland Mind will benefit from the donation, following a year of fundraising efforts by Nexus employees, who organised a range of events.

The money, £10,750 in total, was officially handed over at a cheque presentation yesterday, Monday 4 December, at Central Metro station concourse in Newcastle.

Nexus, the public body which owns and manages the Tyne and Wear Metro, had chosen to support Mind in 2018 as it has been focused on promoting mental health and wellbeing across its workforce.

Managing Director of Nexus, Tobyn Hughes, said: “I’m really pleased that our staff have spent the last year raising this fantastic sum of money for Tyneside and Northumberland Mind.

“Lots of staff have got involved, arranging cakes sales and doing charity walks, helping out a really worthy local cause.

“The charity was the perfect fit for us in 2018 as we have done a huge amount of work to raise mental health awareness and promote mental wellbeing among our one thousand staff.”

Alex Wilson, CEO of Tyneside and Northumberland Mind, said: “I want to say a massive thank you to everyone at Nexus for choosing to support Mind.

“This has been a fantastic opportunity for our charity and the amount that we have received is our biggest ever single donation.

“This partnership enables us to offer support for people experiencing mental health problems. The money raised helps us to continue our much-needed work within the local community of Tyneside and Northumberland.

“Funds are used to support people in our region with mental health problems. It supports vital mental health services and helps us to continue raising awareness of mental health in North East England.”
