Passengers benefit from longer platforms in Cotwolds allowing more carriages to be boarded

Passengers on the north Cotswold Line are from today benefitting from extended platforms that allows passengers to board more carriages on GWR’s new fleet of Intercity Express Trains.

The platform extensions, delivered by Network Rail, are now in passenger use at Kingham, Moreton-in-Marsh, Honeybourne, Evesham and Pershore with the platforms being upgraded ahead of the target date of January 2019.

The upgrade represents a £10m investment with Charlbury and Hanborough also to benefit from longer platforms ahead of 2019.

Chris Nash, project sponsor for Network Rail, said: “These upgrades will allow passengers at stations across the north Cotswold Line to board more carriages on GWR’s new fleet of Intercity Express Trains.

“This should speed up the time it takes to board and alight trains at these stations helping provide a more reliable service.

“We thank passengers for their patience whilst we delivered these upgrades with extended platforms at Charlbury and Hanborough also to open shortly.”
