TransPennine Express (TPE) says business and leisure passengers travelling to Scarborough, Selby and Malton can now hire a low-cost, pay-as-you go car from these stations via the Enterprise Car Club app.
It added that hiring a low-emission hybrid vehicle for the last leg of their journey would enable passengers to leave their own car at home and “let the train take the strain.”
Each station will have a designated parking space with its own rental car allocated to it. Passengers can hire the vehicle using Enterprise Car Club, and all transactions for the vehicle are handled through the app.
Passengers keen to use the car club can join for £10 and receive £10 driving credit towards their first journey. Any of the three vehicles can be rented for £6 per hour or £25 for the day if the vehicle is required for longer.
New members joining to take advantage of the vehicles at TransPennine Express stations can also use any of the 1300 other Enterprise Car Club vehicles located in 125 towns, communities, housing developments and transport hubs across the UK.

“It’s a great option for those who may want the freedom of having a car without the expense of owning a vehicle.”

It means people only use the car when it makes sense to do so and can help businesses to reduce emissions if their employees take the train for more journeys.
“It brings more choice and convenience for travellers, especially if they don’t already own a car.”
The CoMoUK 2024 survey of car club users shows that 55 per cent of members use a train or a tram at least once a week – compared to only nine per cent of the UK population. The data also showed that 50 per cent of members said they would not have been able to go to their destination without a car and 44 per cent said they needed a car to carry luggage of bulky items.
