Plan it all with Planetal

“Getting the plan right at the outset and then sticking to it.” That is the recipe for success according to Matt Klinefelter and Ben Porter.

The duo have joined forces to set up new business Planetal, driven by a passion for planning, born out of front-line project delivery.

“Projects without realistic plans are like structures without foundations,” said Ben, director for work winning and project delivery, who has 30 years’ experience the last 20 directly delivering projects .

The ethos of getting the plan right at the outset and then sticking to it is driving Planetal’s ambition to work with clients who can not only see the benefit but are also willing to drive it through their businesses.

The core of the business is planners who have delivered work in leading positions across multiple sectors. This gives an understanding and development of the plan into a delivery tool.

Ben added: “Understanding where working to the plan makes the most difference. Whilst most projects have a very clear and defined set of KPI’s, set out to ensure accurate reporting the real benefits of a programme can only be realised when this information is used at the frontline.”

It is this ability to frame the project programme for this purpose that Matt and Ben think is different to their competitors.

Ben said: “Planning has almost become an elitist activity and the use of expensive planning software has created a gap between the plan and the project teams.

“So much so that software development is now growing in the programme reader market. This is the real issue. Whilst major projects are established with project control teams filtering information for various dashboards, it is common for these projects to be delivered by SME’s.

“Employed due to their expertise/specialism, it is this expertise that will enable the integration of programmes and interface points and drive the success of the project.

“Yet, more and more, we are finding many SME’s find themselves adopting the plan and sequence given by the main contractor.”

At Planetal they believe this is the wrong way around and aim to develop detailed delivery plans to identify and highlight problems before they occur.

Matt, director forensic planning and expert services, added: “However, when things don’t go to plan, we have a specialist team of forensic planners ready to provide assistance and expert advice.”

Planetal has a growing team with 90 plus years of experience across many sectors of the construction industry all of which drive their ambition to put planning front and centre of all project delivery. Visit www.planetal.uk/ for more details.
