Porterbrook owned and supported rolling stock won eight out of the 25 awards at this year’s Golden Spanners ceremony, which took place on Friday 22nd November at London’s Connaught Rooms.
Hosted by Roger Ford, Modern Railways’ Industry & Technology Editor, the event celebrates the role of train maintenance teams, depots and rolling stock owners in delivering rolling stock reliability.
Since 2005, Porterbrook fleets have won a record breaking 46 Gold Spanners (up from 43 last year) demonstrating the importance of asset management in supporting improvements to rolling stock reliability.
This year Porterbrook fleets won:
- 3 (out of 9) GOLD awards
- 2 (out of 8) SILVER awards
- 3 (out of 8) BRONZE awards
These were awarded to Porterbrook fleets in the following categories:
Gold Spanner – for the most reliable train based on Miles per Technical Incident (MTIN)
- Class 159/0 – Operated by South Western Railway and maintained at Salisbury depot
- Class 90/Mk 3 – Operated by Greater Anglia and maintained at Crown Point depot
- Class 387/3 – Operated by c2c and maintained at East Ham depot
Silver Spanner – for the most improved fleet (percentage improvement in MTIN)
- Class 153 – Operated by Greater Anglia and maintained at Crown Point depot
- Class 170 – Operated by Northern and maintained at Neville Hill depot
Bronze Spanner – for the fastest incident recovery (based on primary delay per incident)
- Class 158 – Operated by ScotRail and maintained at Corkerhill & Inverness depots
- Class 171 – Operated by Govia Thameslink Railway and maintained at Selhurst depot
- Class 387/2 – Operated by Govia Thameslink Railway and maintained at Lover’s Walk depot
