Rail comparison figures for strike period not yet released

Anyone anticipating figures being released today showing how the RMT strikes affected passenger numbers will have to wait another week.

The transportation figures released this week — which give a percentage comparison to how rail was before the pandemic — have not been updated by the Department for Transport. Meanwhile, the week before is still highlighted to suggest they remain estimates.

Referring to the week of the strike is a note added by DfT, which says: “The National Rail journeys data for Tuesday 21 June to Monday 27 June has not been included in this week’s publication, as we are not confident that the provisional figures are accurate because of increased uncertainty due to last week’s industrial action.

“Journeys reported for the most recent week are adjusted to account for a data delay in LENNON, and the current methodology is not appropriate to use in the context of the industrial action, as we do not have enough data to carry out the adjustment process robustly.

“The data will be included in next week’s update once the data set is near finalised and we no longer need to adjust.”
