RDG response on Rail Minister letter calling on accessibility to be maintained during Coronavirus pandemic

The Rail Delivery Group says the rail industry has led plans across the transport sector to boost the number of Public Service Vehicle Accessibility Regulations (PSVAR) compliant vehicles.

It comes after the Minister of State for Transport had written an open letter to the RDG asking the rail industry to continue to ensure rail travel is accessible during the coronavirus outbreak.

In it Chris Heaton-Harris praised everyone for working hard to keep the railways running and called on the industry to continue to ensure the needs of disabled people are met during this time.

In response, Dominic Lund-Conlon, Head of Accessibility and Inclusion at the RDG, said: “We want everyone to have comfortable, dignified journeys on rail replacement services and the rail industry has led plans across the transport sector to boost the number of PSVAR compliant vehicles, which are in short supply.

“Train operators are working hard to procure compliant coaches wherever possible and provide better information about the vehicles they’re using to improve customers’ confidence. All operators will ensure that disabled passengers can continue their journey in a vehicle that meets their needs and enables a safe and comfortable journey.”
