Register now for the next Scottish Engineering Rail Cluster Builder session – featuring MD of Scotland’s Railway, Alex Hynes

The Work Winning Safety, Competence and Training session, hosted by the Rail Cluster project at Scottish Engineering on 17th May 2021 (12.30pm-1.30pm) will be a superb opportunity for SMEs to understand the needs of the supply chain in building and maintaining Scotland’s Railway.

The headline speaker is Alex Hynes who is responsible for the delivery of major projects on Scotland’s Railway and for managing operational devolution.

A key part of Alex’s role is to ensure there is a focus on engaging SMEs in the supply chain and increasing their involvement in major projects across this large part of the network.

During the session Alex will share valuable insights on work-winning safety, competence and training along with leaders in the railway industry as well as providing an overview of what is happening across Scotland’s Railway. If they are to play any significant role in the delivery of these projects, SMEs will be required to put an emphasis on developing and providing a well-trained and competent workforce to deliver safely and deliver well.

To achieve this, a robust competence and training strategy and effective processes will be essential, so the session will focus on safety, training and competence. Attendees will also hear from Sopra Steria about its Competency Training MarketplaceTM (CTM) – a competency management solution integrated with a training marketplace.

Also speaking during the session will be SWGR Group Managing Director Raj Sinha. SWGR is an infrastructure support service provider with significant experience in delivering projects across Scotland over the last 30 years. Raj will talk about how SWGR has focused on keeping its people safe and delivering a high-quality service, as well as his desire to build collaborative relationships with like-minded SMEs working on Scotland’s Railway.

Scottish Engineering’s Shona Clive said: “Our latest Rail Cluster Builder session will be an engaging insight into future opportunities for SMEs in Scotland and how they can make the most of what is to come.

“We know that, when speaking with our members and buying organisations, there is a huge emphasis on safe, reliable and quality workmanship delivered by skilled and competent people and SMEs have to be prepared and ready to prove this in order to win more work.

“This webinar session will be a valuable hour to many businesses, and we encourage anyone working, or looking to work, on Scotland’s Railway to register.”

Jeroen Boomsma, CTM Client Director, said: “We are delighted to be working with Scottish Engineering on this session. We developed CTM to provide a smart competency management solution specifically tailored for the rail and construction industries.

“We believe that CTM is a valuable tool in helping businesses maintain competent workforces, whilst making access to training easier than it has ever been before. We look forward to speaking with SMEs to help them maximise any opportunities.”
