Residents and passengers thanked as level crossing renewal completed in Nantwich

Newcastle Road has re-opened and weekend train services between Shrewsbury and Crewe have resumed as normal, following the successful completion of renewal work to Newcastle Road level crossing in Nantwich.

Sean Wootton, programme manager for Network Rail Wales and Borders, said: “We would like to thank residents and rail passengers for bearing with us whilst we renewed Newcastle Road level crossing.

“We worked closely with train operators and Cheshire Council to minimise disruption throughout the work. The new rubber crossing is safer for pedestrians and cyclists, and will also be quieter when trains and vehicles pass over it, benefitting nearby residents.”

Between 5 and 14 January, Network Rail teams worked to remove the existing crossing and replace it with a new, rubber crossing. The renewal work has made the level crossing more resistant to extreme weather conditions, and will result in less temporary closures in the future, as less maintenance work will be required.
