RIA Scotland heads to Westminster for first reception

Members of Railway Industry Association (RIA) Scotland were joined by senior MPs this week at the organisations inaugural Westminster Reception at the Houses of Parliament.

Hosted by SNP Transport spokesperson, Gavin Newlands MP, the event tackled subjects such as the electrification roll-out in Scotland and the importance of rail in the drive to reduce carbon emissions.

RIA Scotland Chair Meirion Thomas said: “We’re delighted that our parliamentary reception was such a success, enabling RIA members to demonstrate the great work that the supply sector carries out across Scotland directly to MPs, while also highlighting the challenges faced by the industry in these uncertain times.

“I’d like to thank all those RIA members and MPs who attended our reception, especially the event sponsor, Gavin Newlands MP”.

Thomas also addressed guests, emphasising the vital role that Scotland’s railway suppliers play in employment, as well as skills and innovation.

The event gave RIA members a unique opportunity to discuss all things rail with senior Scottish MPs, including Joanna Cherry, Alison Thewliss and former Secretary of State for Scotland, Alistair Carmichael.
