RNLI crew undertaking a 200 tube stop challenge to raise vital funds for the charity

Two of the team from Skegness RNLI Lifeboat Station are going to London on Saturday 19 February 2022 to complete two tasks from crew member Brad Johnson’s ‘200 for 200’ challenges, celebrating 200 years of the RNLI. Brad is undertaking these challenges between 2022 and 2024.

Brad Johnson and Nick Walton will be not only visiting all four Thames Lifeboat Station’s in a weekend (Chiswick, Teddington, Tower, and Gravesend) but they will also be travelling through 200 tube stations across the London Underground network.

In full all-weather lifeboat kit, including helmets and lifejackets, the two volunteers will start their journey from Tower RNLI Lifeboat Station, heading to the closest tube station for the first departure of the day. The challenge expected to take more than 16 hours will be one of endurance but also adventure.

This year (2 January 2022), the four River Thames lifeboat stations celebrated 20 years of search and rescue on the tidal river, so as part of the bicentennial challenge series, it was obvious to undertake one in the capital to coincide with the 20^th anniversary of the Thames service.

Brad Johnson said: ‘I cannot wait to take on this challenge around the capital. I’ve seen the full challenge be completed so many times and it just made sense to try and complete 200 stations. I think the hardest part will be wearing the full lifeboat kit underground for nearly 16 hours, but that’s all part of the fun!

It’s also going to be fantastic to meet the RNLI crews from Chiswick, Teddington, Tower, and Gravesend. Meeting other crew from the RNLI family is always a pleasure and it will be fantastic to learn how their river operations differ from what we do at Skegness’.

Brad is fundraising for Skegness RNLI Lifeboat Station for his ‘200 for 200’ Challenges which runs from 2022 to 2024 to coincide with the 200-year anniversary of the RNLI in 2024.
