ScotRail advises that services will be suspended during Storm Jocelyn

As the extreme weather continues, ScotRail has warned passengers that all its services will be suspended from 19.00 today (Tuesday 23 January), with no rush hour services running on Wednesday morning (24 January).

Ahead of Storm Jocelyn’s arrival, Network Rail has taken the decision to close the railway for the safety of employees and customers.

ScotRail added that railway infrastructure throughout Scotland has already been impacted by Storm Isha, and that more challenges are likely to arise as a result of the predicted high winds.

Trains scheduled to depart before 19.00 will complete their journeys, but no services will run after this time.

With 60/70mph winds expected to batter the country, line closures will continue on Wednesday. A safety inspection must be undertaken on every route before it can reopen, meaning that trains will not run until later on Wednesday.

ScotRail is advising customers whose journey has been disrupted or cancelled due to the exreme weather that they can travel two days after the date shown on their ticket. Alternatively, if they have an unused ticket, they can apply for a refund.

Phil Campbell, Customer Operations Director at ScotRail, said: “The heavy wind and ongoing rain hitting most parts of the country mean that it will not be safe for our customers and our staff, and all ScotRail train services will be suspended from 19.00 tomorrow.

“This is the second withdrawal of train services this week, and we know the impact this has on customers, but the safety of staff and passengers will always be our priority.

“Our colleagues at Network Rail Scotland will again be working flat out to carry out safety checks, and assess what repairs are required to reopen the railway.

“However, customers will be unable to travel early on Wednesday morning, as trains will not be able to operate until the infrastructure has been made safe.

“We will update our website, mobile app, and social media feeds when we have more information, and customers should check for the latest updates before they attempt to travel.”
