As part of its ongoing commitment to improving access and facilities for cyclists, ScotRail has reopened its Cycle Fund for new applications.
Launched in early 2018, the fund offers £100,000 each year to local councils and community organisations, and will run until 2021.
Funding can be used to deliver projects which contribute to the ScotRail Alliance’s vision of providing a ‘doorstep to destination’ journey for customers, whilst reducing congestion and pollution. The fund will provide up to 50-per-cent of project costs.
The Cycle Fund can be used to support projects which will:
- Enhances bike and rail integration through access and connectivity to stations.
- Improves cycling facilities and signage on Scotland’s railway.
- Promotes cycling and walking with a specific focus on links to the railway.
- Create an environment which encourages cycling as part of a rail journey.
So far, the fund has enabled:
- Installation of new sections of cycle path providing better access to Longniddry and Eskbank station.
- Community projects including Dr. Bike mobile repair sessions at Scotstounhill station.
- Delivery of bespoke signage to support walking and cycling routes across Scotland.

“This annual cycling fund allows us to continue this investment and helps achieve the vision of an integrated transport network that provides ‘doorstep to destination’ journeys for customers.
