SLC supports annual Treecycling fundraiser

Colleagues from SLC Rail and SLC Property helped recycle 5,600 Christmas trees to raise money for Birmingham St Mary’s and John Taylor Hospices.

The annual fundraiser offers the local community a convenient way to recycle their Christmas trees in return for a donation to the charity.

£127k was raised and will go towards providing expert palliative care and end-of-life care to people with life-limiting illness and their families.   In addition to providing volunteers, SLC and AECOM – who work in a joint venture together on the West Midlands Rail Programme – also sponsored the event.

Sam Uren, Director of SLC Rail, said:  “We are incredibly proud to support this event every year, which helps improve the lives of others in the areas in which we work and live.

“Not only does the event raise a huge amount for this incredible charity, but it also enables us to help recycle Christmas trees into compost and biomass fuel.  Plus, it’s also always a great team-building exercise as we put our map-reading skills to the test!”

Richard Green, Volunteer Treecycling Project Mentor and Lead Ambassador commented: “This campaign is only possible with the support of our volunteers and organisations, which enables us to help care for individuals and families when they need it most.

“A massive thank you to SLC Rail and SLC Property for their tremendous efforts to support the Hospice Charity Partnership both by their kind corporate donation and to the fantastic volunteers on the day.”
