SPL Powerlines, a specialist rail electrification subsidiary of the Powerlines Group, officially launched its presence in Ireland on Thursday 25 June.
SPL Powerlines is one of the leading specialist rail electrification subsidiaries of the Powerlines Group, operating as part of Equans, a leading company in the energy and services sector. The company said Equans’ long-term commitment to Ireland, coupled with its own deep technical expertise in the design and delivery of rail electrification systems, would bring a “unique combination of international scale, specialist capability, and strategic investment to support Ireland’s infrastructure ambitions.”
John Lahart TD welcomed the establishment of the SPL Powerlines office in Ireland. Deputy Lahart said: “In an era of global disruption, reliable partners are critical. As Ireland’s closest EU neighbour, and with a relationship that stretches back centuries, evolving that strategic relationship is vital and mutually beneficial.
“For that reason, I am delighted to see the expansion of a company as dynamic as this expand into Ireland – at a time of critical infrastructure development.”
Ambassador Place said: “France is Ireland’s closest EU neighbour, and we value the strong and growing links between our two countries. The establishment of this new presence in Ireland by a major French multinational reinforces the deep relationship between neighbouring states.”
Richard Dujardin, Member of Equans Executive committee, who is also the President of NetworkIrlande, the Franco Irish chamber of Commerce based in Paris, said: “With SPL Powerlines expansion into Ireland this represents a significant step in Equans’ broader investment in the country and reflects our commitment to contributing meaningfully to Ireland’s evolving transport and energy landscape. This aligns closely with national priorities around sustainability, resilience, decarbonisation, and enhanced connectivity.”
SPL Powerlines UK & Ireland Regional Managing Director, Lee Pounder stated: “As Ireland prepares to assume the Presidency of the Council of the European Union on 1 July 2026, this moment offers a compelling example of how a major French group and its specialist UK subsidiary are jointly investing in Ireland’s future, illustrating the practical benefits of European partnership in action.”
This announcement was made at the Residence of the French ambassador in Dublin to mark the milestone and to highlight tri partite Franco–Anglo–Irish collaboration in infrastructure development.
