SPL Powerlines UK deliver London to Corby electrification project

SPL Powerlines UK, a 100% subsidiary of Powerlines Group and ENGIE Solutions, has announced that the London to Corby electrification project for Network Rail has been implemented safely.

The successful project implementation proves Powerlines capability as a system supplier in railway electrification and the expertise of the group of companies in large scale project management.

Contracted in 2017, London to Corby has been a multi-disciplinary project involving collaborative working with a number of contractors and complex site access and operating arrangements.

The £300 million contract covered the electrification of 192 single track km including more than 2,300 foundations, 3,240 OLE structures, the installation of 8 substations, a total of approx. 900km of wire (OLE, RSC, fibre, LV/HV) and a total length of steelwork for OLE structures of 38km as well as 350 design submissions.

ENGIE Solutions and Powerlines Group are working to guarantee a more efficient transport system, to increase the attractiveness of public transport, the most environmentally friendly mode of transport.

Martin Hawley, Managing Director of SPL Powerlines UK: “We congratulate Network Rail on the completion of the London to Corby electrification project. We at SPL Powerlines UK are very pleased that we were able to contribute to this success.”

Steve McWhan, SPL Powerlines UK Eastern Director: “The success of the L2C project was down to the teams ethics, collaboration between our client, contractors and a singular vision of becoming industry leaders. Utilising lessons learnt from previous projects, safe delivery, innovation and pushing boundaries of engineering allowed us to see our vision become reality.”

Gerhard Ehringer, CEO of Powerlines Group: “The London to Corby project is the largest railway electrification project Powerlines Group has implemented to date. The successful project implementation is an important milestone for Powerlines Group and our UK subsidiary SPL Powerlines UK.

“With our strong focus on delivery and our experience in large-scale project management, in the UK and abroad, we are well positioned for future large railway electrification project tenders. Reliability towards our customers and efficiency in project management are two of our key values, that is what we at Powerlines stand for.”
