SPL Powerlines UK partners with the Scottish Wildlife Trust to promote conservation and employee engagement

SPL Powerlines UK has announced its partnership with the Scottish Wildlife Trust.

In a collaboration which signifies a strong sense of environmental responsibility from SPL Powerlines UK, the company has committed to supporting the Scottish Wildlife Trust through a unique idea. SPL Powerlines UK, whose headquarters is in Coatbridge near Glasgow, employs a ‘Note’ system, which is a vital channel for employees to report close calls, offer suggestions, and share positive observations related to the company’s various sites. Each “Note” is thoroughly evaluated by the HSQE (Health, Safety, Quality, and Environment) team, ensuring that appropriate measures are taken to uphold health and safety standards and best practices across the business.

Now, for every “Note” raised by the company’s staff in Scotland, funds will be donated to the Scottish Wildlife Trust. These donations will be used to plant trees across wildlife reserves, contributing to the restoration of natural habitats and enhancing biodiversity.

Guenter Kielmayer, Chief Financial Officer at SPL Powerlines UK, said: “It is a personal matter for me to make a difference to the people and the environment we live in. I think it is great to combine our “Note” reporting system with our commitment to the environment here at SPL Powerlines. It makes us an environmentally conscious employer helping to make the world a better place. Actions speak louder than words – SEE IT. NOTE IT. PLANT IT.”

The Scottish Wildlife Trust, founded in 1964, has been a staunch advocate for Scotland’s environment. Managing over 100 wildlife reserves spanning a wide range of habitats across the country, the Trust is at the forefront of nature conservation. Their mission is to protect Scotland’s diverse habitats and species through community engagement initiatives and nature restoration projects.

Lucy Graham, Head of Development, Scottish Wildlife Trust, said: “Our staff are working incredibly hard managing wildlife reserves across Scotland and greatly welcome the support of employees from SPL Powerlines to continue practical conservation tasks, such as native tree planting.”

This partnership not only reinforces SPL Powerlines’ commitment to improved practices but also aligns its employees with a cause which makes a positive contribution to the environment, biodiversity, and wildlife across Scotland. It creates a unique opportunity for the workforce to actively engage in environmental conservation through their everyday work activities.

In the coming months, SPL Powerlines UK will provide regular updates on the impact of their donations across the Scottish Wildlife Trust’s reserves, ensuring that employees remain informed about their contributions to creating a safer workplace and preserving Scotland’s natural heritage.

Additionally, employees are encouraged to explore opportunities for connecting with nature through volunteering at the Trust’s reserves. SPL Powerlines UK welcomes anyone who visits a Scottish Wildlife Trust reserve to share their experiences, photos, and stories, which will be shared with SPL Powerlines staff.

With approximately 90% of Scotland’s population living within just ten miles of a Scottish Wildlife Trust reserve, this partnership offers a unique opportunity for many people to access and enjoy these thriving, wildlife-rich environments. These reserves not only benefit Scotland’s diverse wildlife but also contribute positively to the physical and mental well-being of those who visit them.
