SWGR heads to the frontline to further improve access to health, safety and wellbeing

Frontline team members from SWGR will benefit from a new initiative in which they will be provided with occupational health and wellbeing support wherever they are working UK-wide.

The infrastructure services support provider has always provided free health and safety occupational health checks through its UK-wide service centres. Now, it is introducing a fleet of mobile health, safety and wellbeing units to deliver proactive health checks and advice where it matters most for its frontline colleagues.

With the first of the mobile units launched this month, fully equipped with specialist testing equipment, and supported by medically trained team members, the new service is set to redefine the way that health and wellbeing is embraced and accessible to frontline teams and emphasise the need for us all to think about our individual health and wellbeing.

A key focus of the new mobile units will be to focus on the most prevalent health and safety issues frontline operatives face and help them there and then, where possible.

This initiative is part of SWGR’s incessant focus to further strengthen its drive to do right by its frontline team members, customers, SMEs and industry colleagues. The company also recognises the core reduction in CO2 benefits that will be made through reduced traveling time.

Fiona Baggley, Director of Support Services at SWGR, said: “This year has demonstrated the importance of regular health and wellbeing engagement for all – not only through standard health checks, but the need to recognise the benefits of proactively seeking mental health support.

“Whilst we have always provided free health check for our teams, we continue to find ways in which we can be more pragmatic in our service offering. Through the engagement we have had with our frontline colleagues, we know that there is a tremendous desire for this service and the mobile safety, health and wellbeing units will make a significant difference to our team and industry colleagues.”

SWGR specialises in a range of rail services including Possession Management, Electrification, Rail Labour/Welding, Track Renewals/Maintenance, and Ancillary Works including Vegetation Management.
