Take part in rail’s first mental wellbeing survey conducted by RSSB

The first of its kind survey is being conducted by RSSB to identify the scale of mental ill-health across the rail industry. The survey will also take into account the impact of Covid-19 and that which new working conditions may be having.

In partnership with the University of Surrey, RSSB is undertaking a survey to examine the exposure of the industry’s workforce to psychosocial hazards (e.g. work-related violence) and the prevalence of mental ill-health. Currently there is no validated industry specific data to determine these.

Establishing the prevalence of mental ill-health and the impact of specific psychosocial hazards is key to inform the industry’s health and wellbeing strategy. This will provide targeted interventions to support those most at risk. Awareness of hazards with the greatest risk will allow companies to prioritise the prevention of exposure where possible. Where preventing exposure is not possible, data from the survey can be used to support investment in appropriate controls. The data will also be used to provide the industry with a baseline to assess the effectiveness of industry initiatives.

We invite you to get involved and complete the survey, which only takes about 15 minutes. This will provide you with the opportunity to tell us about your mental wellbeing and the psychosocial hazards you may have experienced at work, including the impact of Covid-19. We will analyse the results to understand how the industry can support staff better to improve the management of mental wellbeing and psychosocial hazards across the rail industry. The survey is anonymous, and no personal data that links you to your answers will be collected.

The survey will be running from 16 August 2020 through to 23 December 2020.

The survey is supported by TSSA, ASLEF, Unite and RMT.
