The Inside Track on the race to become the home of Great British Railways

Today, Inside Track launches a special supplement about the 42 towns and cities that have joined the race to become the new home of Great British Railways HQ.

This once-in-a-generation competition was launched on the back of the Levelling Up white paper, with the government pledging that the new HQ would be based outside of London.

With that goal comes the possibility of new high-skilled opportunities for the lucky town or city which will be selected, following an industry panel shortlisting, via a public vote.

In all, 42 locations have put forward their bids, although if they miss out on the big prize, that may not be the end of the story. Even if a location doesn’t get the chance to host the Great British Railways HQ, many local economies will be boosted by new regional outposts destined to be established across the country.

Unique insights

The team at Inside Track is delighted to have had the opportunity to work with bidders from Carnforth, Crewe, Derby, Dundee, Nuneaton, Swindon, York and Worcester to showcase why they believe their bids should win. Throughout our online guide, we shine a spotlight on their applications.

Thank you to them for participating in this special edition of Inside Track, and good luck to all of the applicants. An announcement on the shortlist is expected in the second half of May 2022.
