The SiteSentinel induction programme proves a service to watch out for

Eagle Labs partner Lucid Communications is celebrating after Network Rail agreed to use its SiteSentinel induction services at three major stations – London Paddington, Reading, and Bristol Temple Meads.

Welcoming a combined total of about 75 million passengers annually, these stations have a constant influx of visitors. These include maintenance contractors, retail outlet workers, charities, and event volunteers.

All these people must undergo a role-specific site induction to ensure the smooth – and, crucially, safe – running of the station. The SiteSentinel platform is fully accessible online, and it runs a range of relevant induction, test, and administration functions, accompanied by high-quality visuals.

Before being added at the first of the three stations, Reading, the SiteSentinel programme enjoyed widespread success welcoming visitors onto rail depots across the country.

Lucid Communications, founded in 2002, also runs a range of services that include in-person and digital training courses.

Principal Consultant Paul Townsend explained SiteSentinel had new inductions for working in a station. “There are areas of overlap between stations and depots; however, there are also many differences,” he said. “For example, providing access to mobile elevating work platforms is much more important at stations due to the volume of maintenance work that goes on overhead, such as lights, signage, and gantries.

“However, what all our SiteSentinel services do have in common is the ability to keep track of all the necessary knowledge and certification visitors might need to have to work on a rail facility. All of this information, gathered through SiteSentinel, is then stored for any auditing purposes.”

“It’s fantastic news that we have been able to roll out SiteSentinel to these stations,” Paul added. “It’s a massive vote of confidence for our services in what is, of course, a safety-first sector.”

As a member of RailBusinessDaily’s Eagle Lab programme, Lucid Communications will get a stand and marketing support at Railtex/Infrarail, which runs from September 7-9 at the NEC, Birmingham.

“We’re very much looking forward to meeting our rail colleagues in September,” Paul said. “It’s hugely important to be able to work with clients face to face in this way, and this could well be the biggest occasion of its kind for the UK in years. It will be a great chance to show rail specialists how we are helping their colleagues with a range of online and in-person services to suit them.”
