TransPennine Express cleaning operation ramped up

Cleaning teams have ramped up their efforts across the TransPennine Express (TPE) network as they continue to make stations and services safe for rail users.

TPE has invested in cleaning equipment across the network to continue to make trains a safe form of travel for users throughout autumn and winter.

Using the new equipment, deep cleaning has become a priority in stations and on the services travelling across the TPE network. The aim of the extensive cleaning programme is to deliver a clean environment to customers whether that be in stations or onboard TPE trains.

During the past three years, 160 sanitation busters at TPE have worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of key workers and customers, by sanitising key touchpoints in stations and on board the 100 plus carriages that operate across the network.

Kathryn O’Brien, TPE customer experience director, said: “Our cleaning teams have been vital in delivering an enhanced cleaning regime on our trains and at stations, giving our customers the best possible travel environment, and we can’t thank them enough for their fantastic work.

“The investment we have made into our cleaning programme has and will continue to have an impact at our stations and the services that run throughout our network. It goes without saying that in a post-pandemic world that cleanliness is a key assurance element for customers when choosing rail travel and therefore we are committed to further ensuring the safety of our customers.”

The investment into the cleaning programme has seen pressure washers, state-of-the-art hoovers, mechanical sweepers and new fog pods purchased which will all play their part in keeping customers visiting TPE managed stations safe.

Face coverings are no longer mandatory in England and Scotland however TPE is encouraging customers to wear them onboard and in crowded spaces, if customers can, as a courtesy to others.
