Transport Secretary appoints Keith Wallace as new Chairman of Crossrail International

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has appointed Keith Wallace as Chairman of Crossrail International (CI), a Department for Transport body that provides strategic advice to client organisations across the world on developing and delivering complex rail schemes.

Keith has been appointed for a term of 3 years, from 1 July 2021, to oversee the continued growth of CI as a UK government-owned specialist rail advisory practice.

He brings over 20 years of leadership experience at board level to his new role. He has held senior positions in the public transport sector, including the Merseyrail (Serco/Abellio JV), Caledonian Sleeper, Govia Thameslink Railway and Greater Anglia franchises.

A chartered director (CDir) and chartered engineer (CEng), Keith is currently a non-executive director of Dublin Bus. He has also worked on High Speed 2, Europe’s largest infrastructure project and spent over 7 years at URS/Scott Wilson (now part of AECOM), where he led the firm’s international rail business.

Keith succeeds Sir Terry Morgan CBE, who has served as founding Chairman of CI since 2018.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said: “I’d like to welcome and congratulate Keith, who joins Crossrail International at an exciting time, as the company grows internationally and extends its work helping cities across the world to unlock the potential of world-class transport networks.

“I am grateful to Sir Terry Morgan for the excellent job he has done as founding chairman in establishing the company and proving that there is global demand for British insight and expertise in delivering complex mega projects.”

Keith Wallace said: “I am looking forward to working with the Crossrail International team, the CI advisers and the Department for Transport, to grow the company and identify new opportunities for British businesses to win more work overseas and support UK government trade objectives.

“I am grateful to Sir Terry, who has provided steadfast leadership in the crucial first few years of the company’s development. I look forward to building on these strong foundations to continue to grow CI’s global reputation.”

CI chief executive officer, Paul Dyson, said: “I welcome Keith as our new Chairman. He brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to Crossrail International’s core business, together with hands-on experience of working internationally. These are valuable skills that will help us to continue to grow CI’s influence and impact as a trusted strategic advisor to clients around the world.

“I also add my thanks to Sir Terry for his vision and stewardship in establishing CI and for seeing the benefit that the expertise and lessons learned from Crossrail could leverage with rail clients internationally.”
