Track upgrades and bridge strengthening work will be carried out by Network Rail on the Gospel Oak to Barking London Overground Line to keep services running smoothly and reliably for passengers.
The work will take place over ten successive weekends starting Saturday 22 August to Sunday 25 October. During these closures, a total of two miles of track will be replaced between Harringay Green Lanes and Upper Holloway.
A total of four bridges will undergo vital strengthening work to maintain the safety and reliability of the track and train services running over them. This will be carried out at two bridges at Beaumont Road and Capworth Street between Leyton Midland Road and Walthamstow Queens Road and two at and Sebert Road and Balmoral Road between Woodgrange Park and Wanstead Park.
The line will be closed at weekends while the work is carried out and passengers should check before they travel. Passengers using these services should also check the latest Government advice regarding travel and Covid-19.
Rail replacement bus services will run between Gospel Oak and Seven Sisters as well as between Barking and Walthamstow Central.
Ellie Burrows, Network Rail’s route director for Anglia, said: “We’re carrying out as much work as possible during these closures to reduce the number of times we need to access the line for engineering work. This work is essential to improve reliability and maintain safe running of services. I’d like to thank both passengers and our railway neighbours for their patience while we carry out this work.”
Rory O’Neill, TfL’s General Manager for London Overground, said: “Network Rail need to carry out this important work to replace track and strengthen bridges. Rail replacement buses will run each weekend to provide alternative routes for those who do need to travel, and staff will be available to assist customers.”
