VolkerFitzpatrick / VolkerRail Joint Venture welcomes supplier applications for its Meet the Buyer event

As one of the three successful bidders invited to tender for HS2’s Washwood Heath Depot and Network Control Centre contract (worth an estimated £275m), VolkerFitzpatrick/VolkerRail JV is holding a meet the buyer event which will take place in Birmingham on the 26 May 2022.

The event will provide the opportunity for UK subcontractors and social enterprises to meet with the VolkerFitzpatrick/VolkerRail JV Procurement team to understand the supply chain opportunities available to support them in delivering a successful project.

Once operational, HS2 Phase 1 and 2a will have a fleet of at least 54 state-of-the-art high-speed trains.  The fleet will be based at the Washwood Heath site, which will provide 24 hour a day, 7 day a week servicing and maintenance and will include a Rolling Stock Maintenance Building, Carriage Wash, Automatic Vehicle Inspection Building and 14 sidings where trains can be stored overnight.

Also on the same site will be the Network Integrated Control Centre, the centre of the network’s state-of-the-art signalling and control systems, as well as office buildings for cleaners and drivers. In total, around 500 jobs are expected to be based across both the depot and control centre.

The main contract is expected to be awarded in Q4 2023 and the winning bidder will work with HS2 Ltd to transform the 30 hectare brown field site into the nerve centre of the HS2 network.

Ian Ford, Divisional Procurement Lead – Infrastructure at VolkerFitzpatrick said: “This is a really important opportunity for the business.  It is critical that we can identify and build relationships with those suppliers that can demonstrate high-quality performance and delivery matched by capability.”

The VolkerFitzpatrick/VolkerRail JV team are being supported by the RBD Community to help them with their meet the buyer event and are inviting Constructionline Gold Approved /RISQS Accredited subcontractors based in the UK to submit their expression of interest (EOI) for a one-to-one meeting on the 26 May in Birmingham. Social Enterprise organisations are also welcome to apply.

Eli Rees-King, Head of the RBD Community said: “We are delighted to support VolkerFitzpatrick/VolkerRail JV with this event, especially as we are well connected to the UK rail supply chain as well as being part of the UK’s largest rail media organisation – giving us a platform to reach thousands of people in the rail sector.”
