Wendy Morton now Minister of State in the Department for Transport

Wendy Morton has been appointed Minister of State in the Department for Transport.

The appointment was made on 8 February.

Prior to this, she was the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for transport, serving in the role since December last year when she replaced Chris Heaton-Harris.

The Conservative MP for Aldridge-Brownhills undertook the role after Lord Frost left his position of Brexit minister. However although she took on Heaton-Harris’s brief last year she was not at that point a minister. This was most likely because of the limit on paid ministers.

Historically, she has voted in support of HS2 and according to data from the Rail Delivery Group, has pushed for greater connectivity within the West Midlands and the Wider Community.

She has consistently voted against a publicly-owned railway.

Her parliamentary track record is as follows:

  • Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Department for Transport: December 2021 – February 2022
  • Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office: February 2020 – December 2021
  • Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Ministry of Justice: July 2019 – February 2020
  • Assistant Government Whip: January 2018 – July 2019
  • Parliamentary Private Secretary, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy: January 2016 – January 2018
  • Member of the International Development Committee: July 2015 – May 2018

Heaton-Harris was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury (Chief Whip) on 8 February 2022.

Until yesterday, he was Minister of State at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.
