Women in Rail Awards 2020 ceremony cancelled – but winners will be announced

Women in Rail has taken the difficult decision to cancel the sold-out 2020 Women in Rail Awards ceremony which was due to take place on 22nd September 2020 at the Camden Roundhouse. The event had already been rescheduled from 6 May due to the UK government’s decision to impose a lockdown and is now cancelled as it has become clear that the ongoing Covid-19 Coronavirus situation means it may be unsafe for guests to gather in a closed space.

The charity had been looking forward to celebrating and rewarding individuals, teams and companies who, in the last few months, have made a significant contribution to improving gender balance, diversity and inclusion within the UK rail industry. The Women in Rail Trustees feel that cancelling the event is the right decision, given that the health and safety of all the Awards guests, their families and colleagues remains a priority.

Despite the cancellation of the live event, Women in Rail is determined to announce and celebrate the shortlisted nominees and winners of the Women in Rail Awards 2020. Plans to make this happen on 22nd September are currently being finalised and details will be announced in the next few days. Women in Rail is also considering inviting the Women in Rail 2020 winners to come on stage at the Women in Rail Awards 2021 to receive a well-deserved round of applause. Nominations for next year’s awards will open as usual in November 2020.

Commenting on the decision to cancel the Awards ceremony, Women in Rail founder, Adeline Ginn MBE, said: “Over the last three years, it has been truly inspirational to hear about the achievements and dedication of the nominees and to see their worthy contributions properly recognised. There is a real awareness at all levels across the rail industry that creating a gender balanced and diverse workforce, and implementing a culture of inclusion, is how our sector will grow and prosper and, in these difficult times, recover quicker from the pandemic. We are truly sorry that we have had to cancel the 2020 live event but are pleased that we will still be able to announce and showcase this year’s inspirational winners.”

Women in Rail will, once more, welcome attendees from a cross-section of the UK rail industry to the Camden Roundhouse on 20 May 2021 for the Women in Rail Awards 2021.

The charity and event organisers would like to thank all the event’s sponsor for their continued support:
