Work to deliver car park improvements for passengers reaches the half way point

The work to improve station car parks across the South has reached half-way as part of Network Rail and South Western Railway’s commitment to improve facilities for passengers.

Fourteen stations have been earmarked for improvements including: Worcester Park and Witley stations in Surrey, Salisbury in Wiltshire, and Overton, Farnborough, New Milton and Hinton Admiral stations in Hants.

Since the start of April, there have been upgrades to seven stations across the South Western Railway network including Sunningdale, Effingham Junction and Weybridge in Surrey, Botley in Hampshire and Honiton in Devon.

Work is due to start on four car parks this weekend and early next week, with the work on the remaining three car parks expected to finish by the autumn.

The work at the car parks included resurfacing work, repainting lines, marking out safe walking routes, removing trip hazards and improvements to drainage so rain water doesn’t form puddles.

This is part of Network Rail’s commitment to make the experience better for passengers and follows on from resurfacing work at Fleet station in February.

Mark Killick, Network Rail Wessex route director said: “The improvements will make travelling to and from the stations much easier, and provide passengers with a better experience.

“While we carry out this work, we will try to keep passenger disruption to a minimum.”

Alan Penlington, customer experience director for South Western Railway said: “We welcome these improvements to car parks at our stations.

“The addition of the walkways will help to ensure customers using our services will be able to travel to and from the station safely.”
